Patrick Lyp is Vice-President of the Valparaiso Economic Development Corporation.  He also serves as the City of Valparaiso's General Counsel and Economic Development Director.  Prior to his appointment, he practiced law at a Valparaiso law firm for over seventeen years.  His practice centered around business, real estate and municipal law matters.  During his private practice he served a legal counsel to various municipal boards and commissions including over eight years as counsel to the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority and over seven years as attorney for the Town of Porter.  Patrick also served as an appointed member of the Porter County Election Board (2004-2014) and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Pines Village Retirement Communities (2007-present).  Patrick also continues to serve as attorney to the City's Redevelopment Commission, a position he has held since 2003.

Patrick was born and raised in Cranford, New Jersey.  He graduated The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1992 with a degree in philosophy.  He attended law school at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey earning his law degree in 1996.  After completing a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Thomas James, United States Bankruptcy Court in Chicago, he moved with his family to Valparaiso where he has lived with his wife (Jody) and three children since 1997.  Currently his oldest son, Andrew is a junior at St. John University in Collegeville, MN studying computer science; his daughter, Kelly is a freshman at the University of Portland in Portland, OR studying to be a nurse; and, his younger son, Thomas is a junior at Valparaiso High School.

Although Patrick has acclimated well to the Midwest since moving from New Jersey in 1996 and is proud to call both Valparaiso and Indiana home, he has not abandoned his passionate, sometimes irrational, support of the New York Yankees, Knicks and Jets.
